Reach out and Read

Reach Out and Read (ROR) is a national non-profit organization that promotes early literacy by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud in pediatric exam rooms across the nation. Click here for pictures from a recent ROR event in St. Tammany parish.

The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans has teaching, research and health care functions state-wide, through its six professional schools and twelve Centers of Excellence, as well as the more than one hundred hospitals and other health science related institutions throughout the State, Region, Nation, and the World, with which they maintain affiliations.

The mission of the Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy is to prepare pharmacists to impact medically underserved communities, particularly African Americans, in an effort to eliminate health disparities through patient-centered care, community service and scholarly work.

The School of Nursing prepares professional nurses as caregivers and managers who provide leadership to enhance the health of a diverse community-by providing  nursing education which incorporates nursing's professional standards of care and  professional performance; by promoting research based nursing; by advocating an improved health care delivery system to meet the needs of a diverse community; and by promoting the advancement of a profession.
